JESUS CALMS THE STORM
JESUS CALMS THE STORM; HE CAN CALM YOURS TOO
Life brings storms, unexpected battles, emotional waves, financial winds, spiritual attacks, and moments where everything feels out of control. But the story in Mark 4:35–41 reminds us of a truth that never changes: Jesus is Lord over every storm.
When the disciples were crossing the Sea of Galilee, a violent storm rose suddenly. The waves crashed into the boat. The wind roared. Fear filled their hearts. And Jesus?
He was asleep.
Not because He didn’t care, but because the storm was never stronger than His authority.
What This Story Reveals About Jesus
1. Jesus is with you in the storm
The disciples panicked because they looked at the storm instead of the Savior. But Jesus was right there in the boat.
- “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” Psalm 23:4
Your storm may feel overwhelming, but you are not alone. His presence is your protection.
2. Jesus has power over what threatens you
When Jesus stood and spoke, “Peace, be still,” the wind and waves obeyed instantly.
- “He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.” — Psalm 107:29
What shakes you does not shake Him.
What scares you does not scare Him.
What overwhelms you is already under His feet.
3. Storms reveal your faith, not God’s weakness
Jesus asked the disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
Storms expose where we trust God, and where we don’t.
They don’t come to destroy you; they come to develop you.
- “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” Isaiah 43:2
4. Peace is not the absence of storms, it’s the presence of Jesus
The storm didn’t stop because the disciples tried harder.
It stopped because Jesus spoke.
Real peace is not found in calm circumstances.
Real peace is found in Christ Himself.
“My peace I give you… Do not let your hearts be troubled.” — John 14:27
What This Means for Your Life Today
- You may be facing storms in your mind, your home, your finances, your health, or your relationships.
- You may feel like the disciples—crying out, “Lord, don’t You care that I’m drowning?”
But the same Jesus who calmed the storm then is the same Jesus who stands with you now.
He still speaks.
He still saves.
He still brings peace.
He still calms storms.
Your storm is not the end.
Your storm is not stronger than your Savior.
Your storm is an opportunity for God to show His glory in your life.
